Pitt Week

Plenty of motivation for UC this week against Pitt // UC Athletics Blog

"A couple of years ago we played a great game (at Pitt) that was very exciting," Collaros said today. "But we don’t remember that. We remember what happened last year. We got embarrassed on our home field. That’s been something we’ve been thinking about since Dec. 2 (actually Dec. 4). They were singing their fight song in our locker room and we’ve been thinking about that for a long time, throughout the summer in training camp. We’re excited to get to play them again."

Zach Collaros is really motivated. That could be a good thing. It could be a bad thing. Or it could be both at the same time.

Making a case: Cincinnati // Big East Blog // ESPN

Too close for comfort. The Bearcats had to rally in both of their Big East wins, so it's not as if they are blowing teams out. They trailed Louisville at halftime. They needed a furious fourth-quarter rally to beat a USF team that has yet to win a conference game. Cincinnati has scored a combined 17 points in those two games. Slow starts can sometimes come back to bite you, so Cincinnati has to start putting together complete games or it could be in serious trouble.

I don't buy this is a big concern. UC won a ton of close games in 2008 and 2009 in winning the Big East. The core guys on this team were around and played parts in both of those runs. Close games are nothing new for them. Winning breeds winning ect.

O-lineman Nix could be back for Cincinnati // Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Pitt senior Lucas Nix appears ready to return to the starting lineup Saturday against Cincinnati — possibly at right guard, the position he manned before hurting his left knee four games ago.

Pitt coach Graham is keeping expectations high // Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

"I thought we were a lot better in rhythm," he said. "We did some things to simplify things that helped, and we executed better. We were on task on what we were doing, and our eyes were where they were supposed to be.

For Pitt the offense isn't really that complicated. But there is a lot of window dressing designed to make the offense look more complicated than it is. My hunch is that the window dressing is causing problems for the Panthers themselves.

Pitt Redshirt Diaries // Post Gazette

The Panthers, who got some help this weekend when West Virginia beat Rutgers, do control their own destiny when it comes to the Big East title and it is this simple - if they win their next four games, they are the Big East champs and there are no ands or buts about it. That being said – this is an elimination game for Pitt.

Brown will carry load for Pitt with Graham out // Post Gazette

Zach Brown will step into the starting lineup and replace Ray Graham for the remainder of the season because Graham had knee surgery last week to repair a torn ligament.

Brown played extensively at Wisconsin, but Saturday will be his first collegiate start.

Pitt Vs. Cincinnati: Todd Graham Press Conference Top Ten // Cardiac Hill

We will have one of our freshmen come in and play the role that Zach played. We have Corey Davis, Malcolm Crockett and Isaac Bennett that we will look at for that position..."Corey Davis has been playing in special teams, some speed sweeps and perimeter runs. Malcolm Crockett or Isaac Bennett will have to burn one of their redshirts and we hope it is just one."

The Pitt backfield is in flux, and thats putting it nicely

WVU vs. Big East Lawsuit // The Smoking Musket

This lawsuit is a stroke of genius by WVU. We strike the first blow and make the Big East look absolutely inept in the national media. A move such as this would never happen without the leadership and foresight by Oliver Luck and Jim Clements. They both just gave the D-X crotch chop to the Big East in front of the sports world.
