Yancy Gates Status Unknown For DePaul Game

PrintThe suspension of Yancy Gates may be lifted as soon as tomorrow nights game against the DePaul Blue Demons. The suspension stemmed from an incident with an assistant coach during practice last week. There is nothing concrete about what exactly transpired but most of the message board chatter has centered around a purported swearing match, for want of a superior term, between Gates and mystery coach number 1. Today was the first time that Gates had talked to Cronin in person, but Gates had been seeking Cronin out which is a positive development in my book. Yancy Gates runs hot and cold on the court, but UC absolutely needs him on the floor to win games in the Big East.

He let Rashad Bishop back onto the squad after suspending him this spring so there was never really a doubt that he would let Gates back onto the team. Afterall Bishop has a much longer and more checkered past as a malcontent than Gates has. But I am surprised that he is thinking about lifting it this soon.
