While nearly every other fanbase is enjoying football this weekend, we're stuck waiting another 13 days for the Bearcats' opener against Toledo. Regardless, things are moving along well on the Nippert Stadium renovations.
As you can see, the new press box/club seating structure above the west concourse is starting to take shape, and will give the stadium some symmetry against the east side's upper deck.
Currently, the east concourse is open but that's set to change with work starting on that side starting September 15. That's when work will start on the east's expanded concession and restroom facilities along with the skywalks from the gameday plaza straight to the upper deck. That work is slated to go on until August 2015.
The route from the walkway between the Lair section and the Student Rec. Center to the steps up to Sheakley Lawn will remain open to pedestrians.
As you can see in the last picture, with Nippert out of commission, it meant that the annual Crosstown Showdown series of high school games had to be shifted over to the Sheakley Athletic Center.
If 2015's schedule holds up, we're looking at a year and one week until Nippert's grand reopening.
