Cincinnati Bearcats Dominate From The Start And Beat UConn 41-16

Rob Leifheit-USA TODAY Sports

The Bearcats started fast and dominated the contest from the opening in routing UConn 41-16 behind dominant performances from the Bearcas passing game and pass rush.

UConn came into the game with some confidence. They might have finally found an answer at quarterback after almost a decade in the Dan Orlovsky-less wilderness. They had finally cut ties with Coach P. They had, statistically, a pretty good defense, particularly against the pass.

The Bearcats erased all those good vibes in about a quarter. A deep pass to a relatively well covered MeKale McKay on the first play from scrimmage went for 56, and Chris Moore hauled in one of his specialties for a TD, a super casual one handed catch and the myth of the good UConn secondary was shattered early. Brendon Kay racked up 300 passing yards in just 24 attempts with four touchdowns. Five different receivers topped 50 yards in receptions led by McKay with his two grabs for 93 yards.

UC put up three more touchdowns in the second half which made the UConn offense exceptionally one dimensional. The Huskies abandoned the running game for the most part and put the ball in the hands of Tim Boyle as the Huskies attempted 42 passes and turned the game into a track meet to the quarterback as the Bearcats racked up 8 sacks, maybe 9. I literally lost count.

As fans we have been waiting for this Bearcats team to put it all together. I feel safe in saying that it happened today. Just an emphatic win for the Cats heading into the bye week and the short week at Memphis.
