Frank Beamer Has Steadying Influence On Virginia Tech

This day in the life sort of feature on Frank Beamer has been circulating around the internet today to much acclaim. It outlines his struggles early on with the program, his triumphs and his resilience in life and how he has managed to avoid the national fanfare that Paterno and Bowden received despite his career record and running a clean program. There's also a pretty cool part about how he belies his competitive nature. It's a really great read if you've got the chance.

Frank Beamer's growing legacy at Virginia Tech

Why Jim Tressel's fall should make Hokies fans grateful for Frank Beamer.

Hokies' Grad Rate Up to 79 Percent

Among the Top 25 teams in the BCS standings, the Hokies are tied for second in the latest graduation rate, which includes players who entered college in 2003. (HT: Norm Wood)

Would Frank Beamer ever pull a Paul Johnson?

Some tough quotes from CPJ about his players.

It's ACC Week at Dr. Saturday

Should be interesting. Last year, it brought us Smart Football's dissection of Bud Foster's defense, which is a must-read for all Hokie fans.

Frank Beamer’s wife recovering after fall

We're all wishing for a quick recovery for Cheryl Beamer, who suffered a nasty fall while carrying one of her grandchildren at the family's vacation home in Georgia on Tuesday. She suffered broken ribs and a broken collarbone, coming away much worse from her fall than Frank did from his.

Coaching Player Arrogance

This is a really thoughtful piece on something we Penn Staters talked quite a bit about before and after the Rose Bowl last year: player arrogance. Matt Zemek takes twin swipes at both USC and Va Tech onfield player boastfulness, while simultaneously chastising the coaches who allow it and praising those same coaches for all of their positive work on the CFB landscape. It's number 3 on the list, and aside for a few unfortunate over-alliterations, contains some real nice thoughts like this one: "If college sports is to fulfill its promise, the people who teach on the frontlines of practice fields and gymnasiums must do more to mold their players into better citizens. Making a distinction between healthy celebrations and arrogant behavior would be a mighty fine place to start. "

VT Fundraiser Honors Herzlich

Head coach Frank Beamer and the Virginia Tech football team announced Thursday a fund raiser to support research for Ewing's Sarcoma, in honor of Mark Herzlich, a linebacker for Boston College. Team United wrist bands will be sold for $1 each this Saturday as the Hokies take on the Miami Hurricanes at 3:30 p.m., and will be sold through Oct. 9. All funds donated will go directly to Uplifting Athletes. Uplifting Athletes is a national non-profit organization aligning college football with rare diseases and raising them as a national priority through outreach, research, education and advocacy.

Jason From Arlington Has Ruined Everything

Jason from Arlington got his 15 seconds of fame last year when he called in to Labatt Hokie Hotline and criticized Bryan Stinespring. Thanks to him, Frank Beamer will no longer be taking callers during his weekly radio show. Fans will still be able to ask questions via E-mail, text message and in person at Bull and Bones Brewhaus and Grill, but no more callers. Thanks, Jason. Honestly, looking at the quotes from Bill Roth in the story, it looks like the show will be much better this year. But it also won't be nearly as controversial.
