6. Cincinnati: The Bearcats’ defense went AWOL against Marquette and so did a big lead. Cincinnati needs to start locking down if it’s going to assure itself an NCAA bid and keep its league record above .500.

Valentine’s Day for Cincinnati's Kilpatrick - NYPOST.com
He redshirted his freshman season to work on his game and his academics. The Cincinnati coaching staff broke down his shot and rebuilt it. Kilpatrick forged it with hundreds of jumpers every day. "I’ll tell you one thing that’s sort of a lost art,’’ said Cronin. "A reporter asked Kevin Garnett how he comes out with great energy every game and he said it was easy. I hit pause and I asked the guys what they thought about that.’’

"They have some great wins," Lunardi said. "They’re 7-5 in the Big East. Not many teams that are over .500 in a major conference with real wins get left out. But they have to hold it. They have to stay at least where they are in the league."

GoLocalProv | Sports | Disaster strikes again, Friars bulldozed 55-48
Plenty - if you're the 2012 Providence Friars. For the third straight game, PC found itself with a late second half lead...and for the third straight game, the opponent found a way to win. This time, the culprits came from South Florida, as the Bulls outscored the Friars 14-2 over the final 2:30 to win 55-48 at the Dunkin Donuts Center Saturday.
So Providence has trouble closing games. That's either a really good thing or a really bad thing given UC's own issues the last few games

It marks the first time she has earned the league’s honor. It is also the third-straight week UC has placed a student-athlete on the honor roll.

Louisville football recruits to fill spots | The Courier-Journal | courier-journal.com
An interview with Louisville recruiting coordinator Clint Hurtt
For every running back, lineman or quarterback the Cardinals need, they offer a scholarship to five players. And it’s first come, first served. The players are told the first one to commit to Louisville gets the scholarship. There’s no ranking system. "You offer five, and you are happy to get that one kid," Hurtt said. "You have to recruit all five like they’re Bo Jackson."
What's interesting about this is the process. UofL target 5 guys at a position and go after all of them the same way rather than prioritizing one or two guys at a position. I am sure other schools use a similar method. But that is basically a trade secret that you might want to keep to yourself.

Tigers' pursuit of Big East Conference cloaked in secrecy, intrigue "
Greg Williams, the president of the University of Cincinnati, became an unexpected ally. Williams became impressed with the Tigers' facilities when his Bearcats trained there in advance of December's AutoZone Liberty Bowl game, Raines said. But another connection proved fortuitous. Though a significant Tiger booster, Rose is a Cincinnati alumnus. So when the Bearcats played Vanderbilt on New Year's Eve, Rose sat in Williams' box. "It was an opportunity for me to get the ear of Greg, plus the athletic director at Cincinnati," Rose said. "... That was one of my independent lobbying efforts in this thing."
Not entirely sure about this. My position on Memphis is clear. Not the best option in a vacuum, probably the only option in reality

It's also a mistake to think that athletes of an anomalous race can only succeed in cities where their "peoples" are well represented. Seattle has a large Japanese population, sure, but Ichiro would have been a superstar in nearly any ballpark in America. And unless the player can sustain his excellence over a long period of time, the novelty wears off quickly, especially for those fans who might start getting a bit embarrassed by the anomaly's level of play.
This is just one reason why Linsanity has been so fascinating to watch.
