One of the downfalls to giving a crap about soccer is that when the US National team is playing (and winning) as they were tonight is that the world basically stops for two hours and no news is consumed in that period. As a result I missed the news that Mick Cronin has added UMass assistant Antwon Jackson to the staff to replace the outgoing George Jackson. AJ comes to Clifton after spending four seasons in Amherst under Derek Kellogg.

Jackson cut his teeth on the AAU circuit in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area with DC Assault and Maryland Select before breaking into the college ranks at William & Mary and eventually moving onto Massachusetts. He instantly upgraded the recruiting for the Minutemen and assembled a roster that is in the midst of bring the program back to respectability. Given how Virginia has become a new place of emphasis for Mick Cronin and his staff this can only be seen as a home run hire for Cronin in much the same way that hiring Darren Savino two years ago bolstered the Bearcats recruiting efforts in the New York area.
