Coming into the game there was one major concern for the Bearcats, the play of T.J. Warren. Warren lit up Appalachian State in N.C. State's first contest of the season, and as the only returning contributor from last years tournament team he had a large bullseye on him from the get go. Warren rounded out the scoresheet with 13 points and 10 rebounds, but he shot just 5 of 15 from the floor, and just 1 of 4 from deep. A lot of credit for that goes to Titus Rubles who match up with Warren from the majority of the contest.
But there is another factor, the Bearcats ability to weather the foul trouble of Justin Jackson, Sean Kilpatrick and Rubles in the first half. In the second half the press seemed to wear on N.C. State in the second half as a tie game at halftime slowly became a 15 point lead for the Bearcats, eventually coming down to the final 11 point margin. Solid win for the Bearcats.
