Sean Kilpatrick Named 2nd Team All America By USBWA

That's the United States Basketball Writers Association. Consider this snub number 2 on the day for Kila.

Jim O'Connor-USA TODAY Sports

The first team consists of

  • Nick Johnson - Arizona
  • Doug McDermott - Creighton
  • Shabazz Napier - UConn
  • Russ Smith - Louisville
  • Jabari Parker - Duke

The second team is;

  • Sean Kilpatrick - Cincinnati
  • Melvin Ejim - Iowa State
  • C.J. Fair - Syracuse
  • Andrew Wiggins - Kansas
  • Cleanthony Early - Witchita State

The USBWA team's are part of the consensus system. The basic math is thus, a first team selection from one of the four lists earns you three points, a second team slection 2 points, a third team selction 1 point. The five players with the highest totals when all lists are in are consensus first team All American's, the next five are the second team. Here are the standings through two publications.

The Sporting News USBWA AP NABC Total
Nick Johnson 1 1 6
Jabari Parker 1 1 6
Doug McDermott 1 1 6
Russ Smith 1 1 6
Sean Kilpatrick 1 2 5
Shabazz Napier 2 1 5
Andrew Wiggins 2 2 4
Marcus Paige 2 2
Nick Stauskas 2 2
T.J. Warren 2 2
Melvin Ejim 2 2
C.J. Fair 2 2
Cleanthony Early 2 2
Kyle Anderson 3 1
Aaron Gordon 3 1
DeAndre Kane 3 1
Fred VanVleet 3 1
Scottie Wilbekin 3 1

The good news is that SK is almost certainly going to be a consensus All American, UC's first since Steve Logan. Merely a matter of whether he will be first or second team.
