Is he a safety, or a linebacker? That is the question that pops up again and again while watching his tape. Its not that he isn't fast enough or athletic enough to play safety at this level, he checks both of those boxes just fine. Like Zach Edwards whatever he lacks in outright speed he makes up for with instincts and intelligence. Jacobs can play safety at this level and be very good at it.
But he could be an absolute monster as an outside linebacker. The best thing about his play is the way that he attacks the line of scrimmage. The subtleties of being an outside linebacker are things that he has a good handle on. He keeps his feet very well, he stays out of the trash at the line of scrimmage like a linebacker, he attacks holes in blocking schemes like a linebacker, and he finishes plays like a linebacker. He is good in coverage, great at reading routes and jumping them, but playing the run is the best thing he does. It's not hard to talk yourself into Jacobs being the heir apparent to Nick Temple as a coverage linebacker. That might be his best position, but will he end up there?
