Every Cincinnati Bearcat enjoyed the office holiday party game against Fairleigh Dickinson. UC set an American Athletic Conference scoring record with 119 points and everyone on the roster played at least two minutes, with 10 players getting in for at least 13. Who’s stock rose the most in the blowout?
13. Jackson Bart (LW 13)
Bart got in for a couple of minutes and committed a personal foul.
12. John Koz (LW 12)
Koz also played for a couple of minutes and did not commit a personal foul.
11. Zack Tobler (LW 11)
The UC faithful were treated to a whole bunch of #ToblerTime against FDU, with the senior playing six minutes. He sank his lone field goal try of the contest and made 3-of-3 at the free throw line to tie a career-high with five points.
10. Quadri Moore (LW 9)
Moore got in for 14 minutes, made 3-of-5 shots from the floor (including 1-of-3 from beyond the arc) and he also collected a pair of steals. However, he was 10th on the team in minutes played.
9. Nysier Brooks (LW 10)
Brooks gets a bump up after recording eight points, three rebounds, a block and a steal against the Knights. The freshman center is still working out the kinks but he has played at least 10 minutes in three of the last four games and has been efficient with his limited offensive chances, making 7-of-11 shots from the floor over the last four contests.
8. Tre Scott (LW 7)
Did ya’ll know Tre Scott could pass? Scott put together 10 points and three rebounds and also handed out two assists in 15 minutes against FDU. He has five assists in the last two games and is third on the team in assist percentage (15.6) among players who are averaging more than 10 minutes per game. That’s a nice skill to have for a guy that can already score in the paint and protect the rim. On the negative side, Scott did miss four free throws last time out.
7. Jarron Cumberland (LW 5)
Cumberland fell a bit through no fault of his own. He had a perfectly sound game against FDU, nailing 3-of-6 shots from three-point range while scoring 11 points. He posted an offensive rating of 178 in the contest, which was third on the team and he also handed out five assists. He’ll be in the top five plenty this season. This week just wasn’t one of those times.
6. Kyle Washington (LW 4)
Wait. How did Washington go from No. 4 to No. 6 after putting up 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting to go with eight rebounds against FDU? That’s the question you may be asking (screaming?) at your screen right now. You have every right to be angry but don’t forget that Washington also turned the ball over five times in this game which is why he recorded an offensive rating of just 89.
5. Kevin Johnson (LW 5)
Welcome to the top five, Mr. Johnson! After weeks of arid shooting from three-point range, KJ finally ignited from distance, draining 4-of-6 three-point attempts on his way to a team-high 18 points. He also showed off his ability to wreak havoc on the defensive perimeter, recording three steals and a block. This was the first time this season Johnson really excelled in the three and D role he is supposed to fill.
4. Justin Jenifer (LW 6)
Jenifer is a player that is really coming into his own. He played extremely well against FDU, scoring 13 points and handing out five assists in the winning effort. As we pointed out in yesterday’s takeaways post, he leads all qualified players on UC’s roster in assist percentage (22.3) and he has been scoring more steadily recently, averaging 8.8 points per game over the last four. That includes a goose egg against Butler, so Jenifer needs to play this well against tougher competition to remain this high.
3. Jacob Evans (LW 3)
Evans did it all against the Knights, scoring, rebounding, passing and defending to excellent results. He produced 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting in 22 minutes and also collected five rebounds to go with four assists. It is the second time in the last three games he has had at least five boards and the sixth time this season he has had at least three assists. Perhaps this scoring guard can do a bit more than put the ball in the basket.
2. Troy Caupain (LW 2)
Maybe Jenifer is the more analytically sound passer, but Caupain continues to get the volume. He had 10 points and eight assists in the win over FDU as he flirted with his second double-double of the season. He has had at least four assists in eight games this season and has had at least five in five. In addition, he has scored in double figures in three of the last four games after doing so only three times in the first seven.
1. Gary Clark (LW 1)
Clark holds onto the top spot despite a limited workload. He played only 13 minutes against FDU, which was more than only Tobler, Koz and Bart. However, in those 13 minutes he crammed the stat sheet, grabbing eight rebounds, dropping four dimes and collecting a block, steal and six points. He posted team-bests in offensive rating (197) and defensive rating (64) even in a game when he rested more than he dominated.
