The Cincinnati Bearcats enter into this long-time rivalry game (this marks the 121st meeting) coming off a 40-16 loss to the No. 6 Houston Cougars. That final score belies the whole story, however. For the first three quarters, the Bearcats hung right with the Cougars, and even grabbed a 16-12 lead early in the fourth quarter. But they couldn’t hold back the Greg Ward Jr. flood in the final 15 minutes and watched the upset bid slip away. Now, with a 2-1 record on the ledger, the Bearcats will take a shot at its 11th-straight win in the Battle for the Victory Bell.
On the other side of the field, the RedHawks are still searching for their first win of the year after falling to Iowa (45-21), Eastern Illinois (21-17) and Western Kentucky (31-24). They will lean on the passing of sophomore quarterback Billy Bahl (56.5 completion percentage, 855 yards, 6 TDs, 1 INT) and the defensive musings of linebacker Brad Koenig (team-high 21 tackles, 4.0 TFL, 1.0 sack).
