The Cincinnati Bearcats women’s basketball team opened the AAC regular season the right way on Saturday. They defeated the East Carolina Pirates 66-54 in Greenville, North Carolina, scoring a confidence boosting road victory.
Cincinnati improved to 9-5 with the win and 1-0 in AAC play. ECU fell to 8-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Senior point guard Ana Owens led the way for the Bearcats, posting a game high 18 points in 38 minutes of action. Forwards Angel Rizor and I’imari Thomas both added 14 points to the winning effort.
Destiny Campbell, Salita Greene, and Mickayla Sanders all scored 8 points for the Pirates.
Cincinnati led throughout the game, but really took control during the third quarter. UC turned a 29-22 halftime advantage into a 20 point lead midway through the third. The Bearcats coasted the rest of the way to victory.
Cincinnati returns to action this Wednesday night, January 3rd, at 7 PM. The Bearcats will host the 25th ranked South Florida Bulls at St. Ursula Academy. For those of you who cannot root on UC in person, head over to GoBearcats.com to watch the game online.,
