The Cincinnati Bearcats women’s basketball overcame a seven point first quarter deficit en route to an 80-72 home victory over the Temple Owls.
Cincinnati cut Temple’s lead to three points at the half, 41-38. UC took the lead during the third quarter and never relinquished it.
The win improves the Bearcats to 11-7 overall and 3-2 in the American Athletic Conference. The defeat drops Temple to 9-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Temple’s attack was led by its superstar senior guard Tanaya Atkinson, who posted 39 points on an efficient 21 shots.
Cincinnati scored a season high 41 bench points, nearly doubling the points scored by the Owls’ reserves.
Sophomore guard Genesis Parker was the foremost among Cincinnati’s bench scorers, contributing a team-high 17 points in the winning effort. Sophomore forward Angel Rizor kicked in 14 points.
Cincinnati returns to action next Sunday Jan. 21 at home against the Memphis Tigers at 2 p.m. The game will be televised online on GoBearcats.com.
