Are you free tonight? Of course you are. It’s a Wednesday in January. Nothing is going on. So why don’t you take some time to watch the Cincinnati Bearcats — who are ranked No. 8 nationally by the Associated Press in case you didn’t know -- host the Houston Cougars in a little American Athletic Conference romp.
- Tipoff: 7 p.m. ET
- Television: CBS Sports Network
- Announcing crew: Carter Blackburn (play-by-play), Pete Gillen (analyst) and Allie LaForce (sideline reporter)
- Radio: 700 WLW
- Announcing crew: Dan Hoard (play-by-play) and Terry Nelson (analyst)
- Series history: Umm, this is awkward. Cincinnati is 29-2 all-time against Houston. That’s incredible. Of course, the Bearcats didn’t play UH during the Phi Slama Jama days and only faced a ranked Cougars team once, in 1973. UC won 65-47 at Fifth Third Arena last spring en route to a season sweep.
UC (19-2, 8-0 AAC) is shooting (puns!) for win No. 20 this season. The Bearcats recently slid past Memphis to push their winning streak to 12 games. They have an even more impressive one at home (37 games). Here are your starters.
- Justin Jenifer (G) - 119.9 offensive rating/92.9 defensive rating
- Jarron Cumberland (G) - 105.5/86.3
- Jacob Evans (G/F) - 120.0/84.3
- Gary Clark (F) - 134.2/77.0
- Kyle Washington (F) - 111.6/83.9
Houston (16-4, 6-2) has itself a solid college basketball team. No, not you, Rice. Go back to your room! The Cougars have won four of their last five games and feature their own AAC Player of the Year candidate in Rob Gray, the league’s leading scorer. Here are their starters.
- Galen Robinson Jr. (G) - 92.7/96.5
- Corey Davis Jr. (G) - 131.3/100.0
- Rob Gray (G) - 122.8/97.3
- Devin Davis (F) - 109.6/91.9
- Breaon Brady (F) - 101.0/91.6
