Sam Rodgers leads way as Bearcats open AAC play with a win

The Cincinnati Bearcats women’s basketball team opened AAC play with a win on Sunday afternoon. UC outlasted a game SMU club, 69-57, improving their overall record to 9-5.

Sam Rodgers paced Cincinnati, posting a career-high 20 points with 5 three-pointers. Rodgers scored 17 of those points in the first half, enabling the Bearcats to take a 41-21 lead into the locker room.

Sophomore forward IImar’i Thomas topped all Bearcats in scoring with 22 points on 11 of 16 shooting. Junior forward Angel Rizor (13) and junior guard Antoinette Miller (12) also reached double-figures in Sunday afternoon’s contest.

SMU fell to 6-8 overall and 0-1 in the American with the defeat.
