The best way to prove that you are a somebody is to act like a somebody.
Cincinnati playing BYU in some kind of “best of the rest” bowl will do nothing to improve the Bearcats’ chances of earning a playoff spot.
It is a distraction. A glorified consolation game.
Cincinnati should not play BYU for the same reason that a frontrunner in an election does not debate marginal candidates. It does you no good, even if you win. It only serves to legitimize your opponent.
We play out the string. We win the AAC. We see what hand is dealt us. Cincinnati should not reduce itself to playing a G5 mediocrity like BYU to pander to the selection committe.
