Following Cincinnati’s inter-squad scrimmage this weekend, Luke Fickell addressed the media and discussed a wide range of topics.
Among the most interesting topics covered was his discussion of the difficulty of recruiting during the pandemic. The Bearcats coach noted that it will be highly unlikely that the program can bring recruits on campus for visits in the coming months.
“The reality is I don’t think a lot of kids are going to get on campus,” Fickell said on Monday. “I think the guys that haven’t committed are going to start to realize that what we were telling them four months ago probably was the truth. You’re going to have to find a way to make a decision without spending a whole lot of time on people’s campuses.”
Despite these challenges, Fickell has displayed tremendous success as a recruiter in recent years. Not only in the annual rankings but, more importantly in the product on the field.
