The Cincinnati Bearcats women’s basketball team fell behind early and never quite recovered.

The Temple Owls (6-7, 6-4 AAC) won convincingly against the Cincinnati Bearcats, 69-53, in Philadelphia.

Cincinnati (3-11, 2-8) fell behind 21-13 after one quarter. Temple took advantage of 14 free throw chances in the first quarter, nailing 11 of them. The Owls relied on a diverse range of offense threats, as four different Temple players scored at least 14 points.

The Bearcats kept the game from turning into a blowout until the fourth period, trailing by just 7 after 3 quarters. But Temple really kept this game at arm’s length from stem to stern.

Sophomore guard Caitlyn Wilson led the way for the Bearcats, posting a career-high 23 points on 8 of 13 shooting. Temple keyed in on senior Bearcats superstar IImar’i Thomas, holding her to just 8 points on 3 of 8 shooting.

Cincinnati returns to action on Sunday February 7th, traveling to New Orleans for a 3 PM tipoff against the Tulane Green Wave. Check back with Down the Drive for full coverage of the contest.
