The Cincinnati Bearcats split a four-game weekend series with Xavier this weekend.
The Bearcats, now 8-9 overall in their non-conference schedule, dropped the Friday night home contest 2-1 before erupting for 22 runs in a Saturday road win.
On Sunday, Cincinnati fell by a 16-8 mark and rebounded on Monday with a 7-2 home win.
On Friday, the Bearcats mustered just three hits against the Musketeers’ lefty Trevor Olson. Bearcats starter Evan Shawver had a strong start—surrendering just 2 earned runs over 6 innings. Reliever Max Bergmann posted 3 scoreless innings for Cincinnati.
On Saturday, Cincinnati got some rather decisive vengeance, banging out 20 hits and plating 22 runs in a rout of Xavier on their own diamond. Cole Harting led the way for Cincinnati, hitting a pair of homeruns for the Bearcats in a 6 for 6 showing with 5 RBIs.
On Sunday, Cincinnati’s offense was again spectacular. Jace Mercer went 3 for 4 in the 16-8 defeat. He belted a homerun and drove in three in defeat.
For Monday’s contest, the Bearcats had another strong showing on the mound. Six Bearcats pitchers held Xavier to two earned runs. Zach Seagal earned the well-deserved win. He surrendered just 1 earned run over 5 innings while fanning 6.
The Bearcats return to action on Friday as they play host to the always dangerous St. Louis Billikens for a three-game weekend series.
