Cincinnati Bearcats great Ian Happ had a strong 2020.
The Chicago Cubs outfielder belted 12 home runs and drove in 28 while hitting .258. In addition to his power hitting, Happ asserted himself further as one of the National League’s best defensive outfielders.
Happ led the NL in outfield assists and fielding percentage in 2020. He received strong consideration for the NL’s Gold Glove award in Centerfield and should be considered a perennial candidate moving forward.
Thus far, 2021 has not been as kind to Happ, particularly at the plate. Over 69 plate apperances, Happ is hitting just .167 and has but 1 home run and a lone RBI. He has certainly been walking more though. Happ’s on-base percentage currently stands at .338, just below his .361 mark last season when his batting average was nearly 100 points higher.
Let’s look for our Bearcat great to right the ship as the season moves forward.
Thanks as always for your support for Down the Drive. Looking forward to an exciting weekend of Bearcats baseball.
