The Cincinnati Bearcats baseball team performed incredibly well this Mother’s Day weekend.
Cincinnati ventured down to Schroeder Park in Houston for a matchup with the Houston Cougars. They certainly took care of business in their final road series of the regular season.
The Bearcats won 3 out of 4 games in the series in convincing fashion, drubbing the Cougars 10-3 in the finale. Second baseman and grad student Jace Mercer led the way for Cincinnati, pounding out 3 hits in the win.
The series victory boosts the Bearcats’ overall mark to 24-21 while they boast a 13-11 record in the American.
Cincinnati starting the weekend off correctly on Friday, winning both ends of a doubleheader against Houston. In the opener, Cincinnati earned a 7-2 victory behind a stellar pitching performance by senior southpaw Garrett Schoenle, who threw the first complete game of his college career. In the nightcap, Cincinnati won 7-0 behind eight-innings of scoreless baseball pitched by sophomore righty Zach Segal.
On Saturday, Cincinnati lost 6-5 on a walkoff RBI single.
