The Cincinnati Bearcats baseball team started the final weekend of their 2021 regular season the right way yesterday.

The Bearcats swept the Tulane Green Wave, the number 2 team in the American Athletic Conference, in a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. Cincinnati showed tremendous offensive firepower in both games, posting a combined 21 runs yesterday.

In the opener, the Bearcats took Tulane pitching deep on four occasions. Cole Harting, Jace Mercer, Ryan Nicholson, and Eric Santiago all homered for Cincinnati in a 10-6 win.

Designated Hitter Griffin Merritt clinched the win in the nightcap for Cincinnati, belting a game-winning three-run homer in the bottom of the 7th inning. Cincinnati won by an 11-8 margin.

The wins yesterday improve Cincinnati’s overall mark to 27-24 and 16-14 in the conference. With a series sweep, Cincinnati could finish as high as third in the league and appears to have secured at least a fourth place regular season finish.

The series concludes with 1 PM matchups between the Bearcats and Tulane today and tomorrow. Both games will be featured on ESPN+.
