ECU Ends Bearcats Baseball Season

by Clayton Trutor

And now the end is near...

The Cincinnati Bearcats baseball season came to an end yesterday. Cincinnati posted 9 runs against AAC powerhouse East Carolina but just could not get enough help on the mound to deliver the win.

Cincinnati fell 13-9 to ECU, who will almost certainly play a prominent role in the upcoming NCAA Baseball Tournament.

The Bearcats fell behind early, 5-1 after two innings before things got much worse in the 5th. The Pirates of ECU delivered a six-run, knockout blow of an inning from which Cincinnati could not recover.

Nevertheless, Cincinnati, who finishes the season with a 29-27 mark, put up a fight with their bats, as grad students Jake Murray and Joey Bellini belted home runs in what proved to be each of their final collegiate at-bats.

Without question, Cincinnati went out with a bang and not a whimper. This was a fantastic season and will provide momentum for the further growth of the program.

Thanks as always for your support of Down the Drive. We will be recapping the season in the coming weeks.
