Ian Happ Continues to Struggle for Cubs

It has been a tough 2021 for Cincinnati Bearcats great Ian Happ. After an All-Star worthy campaign in 2020, Happ has struggled to a .178 batting average and an on-base percentage under .300 over the course of 102 games.

Happ has swatted fewer homers and driven in the same number of runs as he did in 2020 in just 57 games.

What seems to be the trouble? For one thing, he is certainly walking a lot less. Through 102 games, Happ has walked just 43 times. In 2020, he received 30 free passes in just 57 games.

Happ has also battled through a series of injuries and an ugly outfield collision in 2021, gutting it out all the way. Let’s hope for the best down the stretch for our beloved Bearcat in the Windy City. This may be a tall task for a listless Cubs team without a lot left to play for in 2021.
