Cincinnnati 125 for 125 | # 107 Dwayne Berry

Linebacker | Letters 1976-78

The Bearcats defense from 1978 is something of a statistical oddity. In that season alone three different players compiled seasons that still rank among the top 10 in program history. Karl Woods notched 155 tackles, Dwayne Berry turned in 147 and Howie Kurnick had 140 for himself. Now it was a different era of Football back then, a run heavy era where available tackles were plentiful and passes were few and far between. Still the odds of having three guys from one team ranking among the all time single season marks is low.

But Berry was more than just the tackles. He was a play maker behind the line of scrimmage. He picked up 8 sacks in that 78 season. Additionally with all the success that his teammates had that year it was Berry who won the Brig Owens award.
