From the Video Vault: Celebrate the 1991-92 Final Four Team

As we get ready to celebrate the fourth, remember the team that made it to the Final Four.

NCAA Basketball: Memphis at Cincinnati Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

The beginning of July is a time reserved for patriotic celebration in the United States. Fireworks, barbecues and ‘Murica is the theme of this weekend, and it will spill into the week as July 4 falls on a Tuesday this year.

When thinking about all this celebratory fever, I thought it would be a fine time to show some Cincinnati Bearcats patriotism as we remember a special team that had a connection to the number four as well. During the 1991-92 season, the Bearcats went 29-5 in their third year under Bob Huggins. Led by Herb Jones, Anthony Buford and Nick Van Exel, UC made it all the way to the Final Four, slaying giants like Michigan State and Memphis in the NCAA Tournament. Although they would eventually succumb to Michigan and the Fab Four, it was still the best NCAA Tournament run the program had had (or has had) since winning back-to-back national titles in the early 60s.

The team was celebrated during this past basketball season, which led to the return of some of the best uniforms the program has ever put out there, but there can never be too much celebrating that team, for it got the program rolling under Huggins and likely helped bring in other legends like Danny Fortson and Kenyon Martin.

So, for your viewing pleasure this pre-Independence Day Sunday afternoon, please enjoy some fireworks from that season.
