It was an eventful evening for the Cincinnati Bearcats’ women’s basketball program.
UC notched a convincing first-round WNIT victory over Youngstown State, 76-62, in front of a home crowd at Fifth-Third Arena. Cincinnati awaits a to-be-determined opponent on Monday evening in the second round of the tournament.
The victory was Cincinnati’s first postseason win since 2012 and it was the 200th career victory of head coach Michelle Clark-Heard.
Cincinnati took control of this one in quick order. After trading blows with the Penguins in the first quarter, Cincinnati dominated the remainder of the half, jumping out to a 35-25 lead at the break. The Bearcats never looked back. This contest was rarely within striking distance during the second half. Cincinnati led by as many as 20 but the lead fell to 14 by the time of the final buzzer.
Junior guard Antoinette Miller paced the Bearcats with 16 points while sophomore forward Andeija Puckett posted 16 points, which tied for the team high and was also her career high.
