Yesterday in Wichita, the Cincinnati Bearcats men’s basketball team fell to 1-4 in the American, further imperiling their postseason possibilities.
The Bearcats (3-7) held a 30-29 advantage at the half against a strong Wichita State club (7-3, 3-1) but a combination of unforced errors and poor shooting from behind the arc doomed Cincinnati.
Freshman standout Ricky Council IV led the Shockers’ second-half surge, posting a career-high 23 points. Cincinnati fell behind early in the second half and trailed by as much as 16 before making the final much more respectable in the final minutes.
Several Bearcats played well. Sophomore guard Zach Harvey pumped in a team-high 19 points while junior guard David DeJulius put in a workman-like 12 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds.
Cincinnati returns to action on Wednesday as they play host to East Carolina at 5 PM at the Fifth Third Arena. Check back with Down the Drive for full coverage of the contest.
