Defensive Back | Lettered 1997-2000

Cincinnati has a long and proud tradition of employing Safeties whose soul mission in life is the hunt down and crush receivers, running backs and yes, should the chance arise, quarterbacks as well. One of the founding members of that school was DeJuan Gossett.

Gossett what is truly remarkable is how close Gossett came to not being able to play at all for UC. As a true freshmen he was slated to start as the nickle back before blowing out his knee. The prognosis wasn't good and he was close to losing the ability to play. Instead he had a remarkable recovery and went on to be a four year starter beginning with that 1997 Bowl Season. DeJuan became a two time All Conference USA selection for UC and still ranks in the top 10 all time in tackles and solo stops.
