Cincinnati Recruiting: Weekly Whispers - KJ Sails decommits from Iowa, Bashir Ahmed update

Can Cincinnati take advantage of a top target decommitting from the undefeated Iowa Hawkeyes? Plus, the latest on a JUCO target for Mick Cronin and the basketball Bearcats.

Welcome to this week's installment of "Weekly Whispers," our weekly series in which we keep Bearcat Nation updated on the latest recruiting news for the Cincinnati Bearcats. Lets see what happened this week on the recruiting trail.

Sails back on the market

It was a little over two weeks ago that Cincinnati target and '16 CB KJ Sails gave his pledge to Iowa head coach Kirk and the Hawkeyes. Fast forward to this past weekend and the East Bay (Fl) prospect was in Columbia, South Carolina as he was making a visit to the Gamecocks campus.

Whether this means that the Gamecocks are currently into the mix or that Sails is simply just putting everything to the side and making sure he is making the right choice is yet to be seen. However, the Bearcats should certainly be okay with this news as they are in a much better spot with the three-star prospect today then they were in for the last two weeks. It's worth mentioning that before his short-lived commitment to the Hawkeyes, the Badgers of Wisconsin were another team that was well in the mix for the 5'11, 170-pound defensive back from the Sunshine State.

Two-team race for Ahmed

Basketball season just kicked off a few days ago, so it's only right to bring an update on a hoops recruiting target. According to Brad Winton of JucoRecruiting.com, '16 JUCO SF Bashir Ahmed has St. John's and Cincinnati at the top of his list.

(Bashir Ahmed) said Cincinnati and St. John’s are currently ahead of the other schools on the list because they have been recruiting him the longest and he has taken official visits to both schools. Cincinnati has been on Ahmed since early in his freshman year and St. John’s has been involved since new head coach, Chris Mullin, took over.

Ahmed went on to say that Oklahoma State, Oregon, Texas, and Texas A&M are some other schools that he speaks with and are still in the mix for his pledge. Also, the 6'7, 215-pounder stated that he plans to make his collegiate decision sometime in December and sign in April. While the Bearcats are certainly in the mix, the 247Sports Crystal Ball currently favors the Red Storm overwhelmingly.

Bush gets UC offer

On Saturday, Cincinnati sent out an offer to one of the more exciting prospects to watch -- '17 RB Tevin Bush of Landry-Walker (LA). For now, the Bearcats are just one of three programs to extend a scholarship offer to the 5'8, 170-pounder with Texas Tech and Tulane being the others.

While the three aforementioned programs are the only universities to offer the New Orleans native, if he continues to do things like leave the oppositions ankles dragging across the turf, it won't be long until more schools start calling Bush.
