Cincinnati played tough, but wasn't able to close out undefeated SMU on the road, losing 59-57. Following the loss, which adds to a growing list of close losses to ranked opponents, head coach Mick Cronin offered his reaction to the game.
With Cincinnati holding a lead late, SMU closed out the game on an 11-2 run, highlighted by key rebounds, a wide-open Nic Moore three-pointer and a Jordan Tolbert block on Troy Caupain. The Bearcats struggled, yet again, to buckle down defensively and find key shots as the clock ticked down. Cronin, in his comments below, expresses the frustration that many Cincinnati fans are feeling. Cronin says that the Bearcats are missing an "offensive closer" right now and need to fix issues on the defensive end. Cronin also begins by largely avoiding the topic of fouls, in which Cincinnati was called for 20 personal fouls to SMU's nine.
Cincinnati is on the road against Sunday against South Florida with the game tipping off at 12 p.m. ET.
