Bearcats Inch Up, Still Out of AP Poll

A 2-0 week against weak competition didn’t improve Cincinnati’s spot in the national rankings all that much.

The Cincinnati Bearcats’ slow climb back into the AP Top 25 will last at least one more week. The most recent poll was released on Monday and UC was once again on the fringes, but not right in the thick of things.

At 5-1, with that one loss coming against No. 21 Rhode Island, UC has the look of a top 25 team, but last week, winning games against Lipscomb and Samford didn’t do much to raise their reputation to the voters. If you expand the rankings out, UC would be No. 28, receiving 49 votes. They trail Maryland (126) and Notre Dame (85) in the “others receiving votes” group and are nearly 100 votes behind No. 25 West Virginia.

Luckily, the Bearcats have an excellent chance to push their way into next week’s rankings, as they visit No. 19 Iowa State on Thursday.
