Greetings, reader of Down the Drive. How would you like to become a writer of Down the Drive? We’re in the market for some new contributors, as well as a deputy manager, to help with some of the day to day management while current management has to temporarily step away.
Compensation: I won’t bury the lede. These positions are unpaid. As a former contributor I know that is not ideal, but this can serve as a foot in the door of the sports media industry. Speaking from personal experience, I went from contributor to site manager of DTD in a year.
An individual who was willing to help run the site for a few weeks though, would be eligible for a stipend.
Duties: Essentially we are looking for writers who can meet deadlines, write clean copy and help us grow our coverage of all things Cincinnati Bearcats.
Scheduling is largely flexible, but obviously some weekend availability is preferable since sports are a seven-days-a-week endeavor. Ideally, you’ll write at least twice a week on average. Assignments range from game previews and recaps to features and profiles. Take a look at the current site to get an idea of what type of content we produce regularly.
Background qualifications: Ideal candidates for this position should:
- Have knowledge of and passion for the Cincinnati Bearcats as well as experience writing and covering college sports.
- A proven ability working in a deadline-driven virtual environment.
- Be able to write in line with and adhere to SB Nation’s best practices.
- Experience with recruiting coverage is a plus.
However, don’t be afraid to apply just because you don’t have a resume that goes 10 pages long. The main thing we are looking for are people who can write and want to write about UC.
Apply: If you’re interested, send an email to college@sbnation.com with a resume and a writing sample.
