Bearcats Up to No. 22 in AP Poll

It appears it will be a slow climb up the rankings.

NCAA Basketball: Tulane at Cincinnati David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

A perfect start to American Athletic Conference play has only made a minor impact on the Cincinnati Bearcats’ ranking in the world. Following two very different wins (a 56-50 slogfest against Temple and a 92-56 drubbing of Tulane), UC is now 12-2 overall and tied with four other teams atop the AAC standings with a 2-0 mark against league foes.

That resume is enough to move UC up in the AP Top 25, although by a small amount yet again. The Bearcats are now No. 22 in the poll, after moving up to No. 23 a week ago. If they can maintain a position in the poll next week, they will have matched their total for weeks ranked from a year ago, when they enjoyed such a status for six weeks.

Once again no other AAC team was in the rankings, but SMU (12-3, 2-0), Houston (11-3, 2-0) and UCF (11-3, 2-0) could change that as conference play continues, especially the Mustangs, who have won eight straight.
