  • Series history: Here’s the good news: Cincinnati swept the regular season series against UConn last season. Here’s the bad news: A miracle shot and four overtimes allowed UConn to break UC’s heart in the American Athletic Conference tourney. UC has won 13 of 21 total matchups and has knocked the Bearcats out of the AAC tourney in the last two seasons.

In order to claim dominion over the American Athletic Conference, the No. 14 Cincinnati Bearcats must beat their conference rivals, the Connecticut Huskies in a battle at Fifth Third Arena Saturday afternoon.

It may seem like a team on a 13-game winning streak has little left to prove but after UConn ripped UC’s lungs out in a four-overtime marathon in the AAC tourney last season, the Bearcats need to win Saturday. UC (20-2, 9-0 AAC) is coming off a thrilling 57-55 win on the road over Tulsa, which came down to a last-second shot from Troy Caupain.

UConn (10-11, 5-4) has not had the typical UConn season, but has been getting back on right track recently, with wins in three-straight. Granted, those contests were against East Carolina, USF and Tulane, three of the worst teams in the conference. The Huskies are the No. 108 team in the country according to KenPom, ranking 208th in adjusted offensive efficiency (102.2) and 43rd in adjusted defense (96.6).
