Women’s Basketball Falls to Old Dominion in OT

Bearcats drop to 2-1

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-First Round-Kansas State vs Cincinnati Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Bearcats women’s basketball team fell to 2-1 last evening, dropping a 76-72 decision in overtime to Old Dominion University.

The loss brings to an end UC’s opening homestand at Fifth Third Arena.

Cincinnati held a 34-30 advantage at the half but inconsistent shooting and a failure to control the boards cost the Bearcats the game.

Cincinnati shot a mere .319 for the evening and was pummeled on the boards 56-37. Cincinnati trailed for much of the second half but fought their way to a regulation tie. In overtime, Cincinnati native Victoria Morris took over for Old Dominion, adding six of her 23 points for the victorious Monarchs.

Senior guard Nikira Goings led the way for Cincinnati with 18 points while junior forward Angel Rizor added 14.

Old Dominion, who improved to 3-0 with the victory, was paced in its attack by freshman phenom Ajah Wayne. The 5’10 forward poured in a team high 24 points in the victory.

Next up for the Bearcats is a Friday night showdown in Pittsburgh with the Pitt Panthers. Check back with Down the Drive for full coverage of the Bearcats’ road excursion.
