The Cincinnati Bearcats women’s basketball team had a fantastic Friday evening.

In front of a home crowd at Fifth Third Arena, UC took care of business against the Howard Bison, posting an 85-51 win in the Bearcats’ non-conference finale.

The win cemented an 8-5 mark for Cincinnati in the first semester, putting them in position to compete for a post-season tournament heading into AAC league play.

The Bearcats jumped to a 19-7 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Cincinnati’s robust frontcourt continued its early season dominance of the boards, holding a 50-29 advantage over Howard on the glass.

Sophomore forward Ilmar’i Thomas led the way for the Bearcats in the low post, posting career highs in rebounds (17) and points (23).

The Bearcats have the next couple of weeks off. They do not return to actions until January 6th against SMU, a home contest which will be broadcast on ESPN2.
