John Brannen is in the midst of an overhaul of sorts as the new head coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats. Although we are still waiting to see how everything plays out for the roster, Brannen also had to address the coaching staff he will be surrounded by next season. In the past few days, that’s just what the Bearcats have done, bringing in a largely new staff for the program but not an entirely new one for Brannen. Here’s a look at some of the new hires on the coaching staff.
Jayson Gee - Assistant Coach
Gee has experience as a head coach but will be serving as an assistant for the Bearcats. He formerly served as the head coach for Longwood of the Big South Conference from 2013 to 2018 but struggled to produce victories, finishing with a 42-120 record with the Lancers. He had more success prior to that as a head coach for the Charleston Golden Eagles, where he also played in college during the 80s. As a coach, Gee led the Golden Eagles to four Division II NCAA Tournament appearances and a record of 160-53 between 1996 and 2003. He has also served on the staffs at Youngstown State, Ohio University, St. Bonaventure, Cleveland State and Winthrop University as either an assistant coach or associate head coach. Gee played
Sean Dwyer - Assistant Coach
Dwyer is following Brannen over from Northern Kentucky where he was an assistant coach from 2015 until taking a job with UC. Dwyer has also spent time on the staffs at Alabama (along with Brannen), Arkansas, Florida and Michigan State.
Tim Morris - Assistant Coach
Morris is another staff addition with Northern Kentucky ties. He was an assistant coach under Brannen since 2016 and also put in time with Nevada, Alabama and Kennesaw State. Not only does he have experience as a coach but as a player. He averaged 6.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game over three seasons at Stanford and Washington from 2004 to 2008.
Jake Luhn - Assistant to Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator
Luhn is a former colleague of Brannen at Northern Kentucky and Gee at Longwood and St. Bonaventure. He started in Longwood in 2013 and then spent last season with Northern Kentucky. He is also a former player from UMass Boston as well.
