Since the start of the 2019 football season, 9 Bearcats have now entered the famed transfer portal as WR Javan Hawes becomes the latest. Hawes becomes the third WR to transfer out (Malick Mbodj and Yanez Rogers).
This news is certainly not as significant as the news of Mbodj leaving, but it’s meaningful from the standpoint of one less guy competing in an already crowded, but untested WR room.
Entering 2020, Cincinnati loses 5 of their top 7 guys in catches in 2019. That’s 119 catches out of 208 possible receptions and 1,397 yards out of 2,552. That’s a fairly significant amount of production, from a team that struggled in the passing game.
Alec Pierce and Jayshon Jackson are the most notable and experienced returnees with Blue Smith, Trent Cloud and a group of others in the mix to compete for snaps.
Hawes did not see the field as a receiver in 2019 and finishes his career with just 12 total catches, 102 yards and 1 touchdown. He caught that touchdown in 2017 in garbage time in a blowout loss against Marshall.
Touchdown #Bearcats! Another career first as WR Javan Hawes hauls in the catch.
