The press release from GoBearcats.com
Gantz leads the American Athletic Conference with his 90.9 field goal percentage (10-of-11). He ranks third in the league in field goals per game (1.25), second in kick scoring (7.9 ppg) and third in overall scoring (7.8 ppg). He has made his last eight kicks, including a career-long boot of 46 yards at Miami (Fla.).
That Gantz is even being considered for the Kicking Heisman* at all shows just how much the Bearcats special teams have improved over last season's out and out disaster. Gantz missed his first kick of the year, an extra point no less, but he has been rock solid since. Gantz is the biggest reason that I no longer watch special teams plays like this. For that alone Gantz should get an award from someone.
*that's what they call it right? The Kicking Heisman. No...well they should
For what its worth only two freshmen made this list, and only two AAC players in total, Gantz and Houston's Kyle Bullard. The complete list of semi finalists can be seen here.
