The Cincinnati Bearcats improved to 8-1 this afternoon, pummeling the Navy Midshipmen 42-0 at Nippert Stadium.
36,318 fans looked on as Cincinnati outgained Navy 451-171. Four different Bearcats backs gained at least 40 yards (Charles McClelland, Michael Warren, Desmond Ridder, and Tavion Thomas). Quarterback Desmond Ridder went 13 for 17 for 178 yards in abbreviated action. He posted a second quarter rushing touchdown as well as a third quarter touchdown toss to receiver Rashad Medaris.
Cincinnati’s defense prevented the Midshipmen from getting anything going on offense all afternoon. In particular, senior defensive tackle Cortez Broughton ran roughshod over the Navy offensive front, rampaging his way to a 10 tackle afternoon.
The outcome of this game was only briefly in question. Cincinnati took a 28-0 lead into the half and played much of the final two frames with one hand behind its back. Navy, which fell to 2-7 with the loss, is now assured of its first losing season since the 20th century.
Our Bearcats head into next week’s showdown with the suddenly mortal South Florida Bulls with their pump primed, ready to ascend back into the upper echelons of college football.
