The Least You Should Know

Illinois ended a nine game losing streak a week ago against Southern Illinois behind a 416 yard performance from embattled senior QB Nathan Scheelhaase. In that game the offense discovered heretofore unknown competency in the passing game. But there are still red flags with the offense, starting with the offensive line. A group that surrendered 5 sacks of Scheelhaase and allowed SIU to rack up 10 TFL in addition to all those sacks and managed  just 67 pre sack rushing yards on the day.

Defensively the Illini are still a work in progress. They didn't get completely shredded against the Suluki's. The run defense in particular was excellent, but the secondary looked poor against an SIU team that was completely outmanned, and yet managed to string together some great second half possessions against Tim Bank's crew.
