Cincinnati Athletics: Soccer Teams Win and Volleyball Defeats Xavier

Men's and women's soccer both pull out wins while the women's volleyball teams defeats cross-town rival, Xavier, in four sets.

Women's Volleyball

Bearcats Women's Volleyball beats Xavier 3-1

The University of Cincinnati women's volleyball team took down cross-town rival Xavier 3-1 this past Saturday.

The Women's Volleyball team beat Xavier in four sets (25-19) (17-25) (25-18) (25-18), leading the way for the Bearcats was freshman Jordan Thompson. She had a match-high 15 kills. This was the final match of the Queen City Classic and pushed their record to 2-1 on the year. The Bearcats take the court next on Friday, Sept. 4th against Binghamton in Cleveland.

Women's Soccer

Women's Soccer beats Providence 1-0

The University of Cincinnati Bearcats women's soccer team improved to 2-1-1 after a win against Providence.

The Bearcats were in action August 30th against the Providence Friars. Senior Danielle Rotheram netted the lone goal for the Bearcats in the 79th minute. Kelsey Parrinello was awarded with the assist after dishing a nice pass to Rotheram as she did the honors of putting it in the back of the net. The Bearcats will be back in action on the road in Boulder, Colorado to take on the Colorado Buffaloes Friday, Sept. 4th.

Men's Soccer

Bearcats take down Valparaiso in extra time

The University of Cincinnati Bearcats men's soccer team took down Valpo in stunning fashion improving to 2-0.

Senior Emmanuel Appiah netted a PK in the 103th minute to down Valpo and improve to 2-0 in the process. The Bearcats have earned victories in their first two matches of the season for the first time since 2009. That was when the Bearcats started the year out 4-0. Goalkeeper Alex Gill had three shots come his way and none of them found the back of the net. The men's soccer team takes the field tonight, Sept. 3, against Virginia Tech at 7:00 PM.

Men's Golf

Men's golf will get things going on Friday, Sept. 11 when they travel to Kiawah Island, South Carolina for The Invitational at The Ocean Course.

Women's Golf

The women's golf team will get their season started officially on Monday, Sept. 14 at the Memphis Intercollegiate in Memphis, Tennessee.

Cross Country

Cross Country will be competing at the Queen City Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 9:00 AM.

Swimming and Diving

The first action for the men's and women's swimming and diving teams is the intrasquad Red & Black Meet on Friday, Sept. 11 at Keating Aquatics Center.

Women's Tennis

Women's tennis will first take the court on Friday, Sept. 18 when they travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the Milwaukee Classic hosted by Marquette.
