The 9-5 Cincinnati Bearcats women’s basketball team returns to action this Wednesday night, January 3rd. At 7 PM, they will be hosting the 25th ranked South Florida Bulls at St. Ursula Academy.

For those of you who cannot attend the game, head on over to GoBearcats.com for live televised coverage.

Cincinnati is coming off a road victory in their AAC regular season debut. On Saturday, the Bearcats defeated East Carolina 66-54 in Greenville.

The 10-3 South Florida Bulls have emerged in recent years as an AAC women’s basketball power. They have lost to UConn three consecutive years in the AAC Tournament champion game. Under the leadership of longtime coach Jose Fernandez, the Bulls are seeking their fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The South Florida roster includes five players that are averaging better than 10 points per game. In addition to their scoring prowess, the Bulls are one of the AAC’s tallest teams and among its most athletic. As usual, the Bulls have a strong international flavor to their team. Four of their five leading scorers hail from overseas. Kitija Laksa, a 6’0 junior guard from Latvia, is one of the AAC’s leading scorers, averaging nearly 23 points per game.

Maria Jerspersen, a 6’0 senior forward from Denmark, is the team’s leading rebounder, averaging nearly 10 boards per game while posting 16.4 points per game.

The Bearcats will need all the support they can get against this highly talented conference foe. Make it down to St. Ursula’s if you can to support UC women’s basketball.
