Cincinnati Bearcats Basketball Week 2 Overview

The first week of the season is over, with the Bearcats emerging victorious from their season opening tilt with the Red Flash of St. Francis. This is a lite week with just one game, on Wednesday against the Morehead State Eagles. Here is the primer for the week.

About Morehead State

The Eagles are an exceptionally experienced team in this age of college basketball. They have just two freshman on the roster and 13 upperclassmen. Four starters from last year's 20 win team are back for the Eagles which should be a cause for concern. The Eagles opened their season against UNLV in Vegas on Friday and they dropped a heart breaker 60-59. Morehead will be taking on Cincinnati Christian tonight in Kentucky before making the short 105 trek to the Queen City.

Eagle To Watch

Angelo Warner is one of the best players that the Ohio Valley Conference has to offer, and he has been a big part of the Eagles attack for the last two seasons, averaging 10.9 points as a sophomore and 17.5 points as a junior a year ago. He got off to a good start scoring 21 points on a 53.1 effective field goal percentage. As a team the Eagles really struggled on offense scoring at a rate of 89.4 points per 100 possessions. If they are able to do that it will have to be Warner leading the charge.

Key Bearcat Of The Week

Shaq Thomas, in the first game of the year, during a year where this is supposed to start becoming his team, Thomas did what he has become known for doing, he drifted. Three field goal attempts, three rebounds, four turnovers and zero points in 14 minutes of anonymous basketball. It's just one game of 30 or so, but that is not the start you want or need from a guy who is expected to be one of the leaders of this team.
