Bearcats Top The RedHawks 31-24

Much like last year's game, this one was not pretty, but it was a win. The defense cleaned up a lot of the mistakes from the Toledo game, but certainly not all of them. Still this year I will usually take the defense giving up just 24 points on the assumption that the offense will comfortably score more than that. It is there that my logic failed me tonight.

The main question being would Eddie Gran revert to the roots he displayed last year when the Bearcats unsuccessfully tried to meld an offense that was part one back spread, part power. After one game the answer is a pretty emphatic no.

All of the press about the Bearcats has been about the offense, and with good reason. They really lit things up on that side of the ball. The receivers had acres of space and Gunner Kiel had enough time to get them the ball. In all the Bearcats rolled up 584 yards of offense on just 72 plays and looked unstoppable against the Rockets. The problem was that the defense looked just as incapable of stopping the Rockets.
