Patrick Coyne has left the UC Football team.

UC sophomore fullback Patrick Coyne has asked for and been granted his release from the football team, UC spokesman Ryan Koslen said. Coyne will explore playing at the FCS level, Koslen said.

Coyne came to Cincinnati as a well hyped QB from Hamilton Badin but he never really panned out at that position. Eddie Gran and his staff moved Coyne to a fullback/H-Back position, but the generally excellent play of Jared Golden didn't leave much room for Coyne to find a role.

With the rash of QB injuries this year Coyne had been taking practice snaps at the position of late. I would assume that part of the appeal in transferring is to find an opportunity to play quarterback. Join me in wishing Pat the best of luck in finding a school.
