Bearcats Schedule Home and Home With Miami Hurricanes

Whit Babcock continues to be worth every penny that he is paid. Earlier this year the Bearcats scheduled a one off game with Michigan in conjunction with a basketball home and home. Then UC scheduled home and homes with Nebraska in basketball and football and now, Miami

That is good work from Whit. Here is the official release from UC.

The Bearcats will travel to Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. on Oct. 11, 2014 with the Hurricanes returning the trip to a newly renovated Nippert Stadium on Oct. 3, 2015.

So that gives the Bearcats a non conference slate of Toledo, Miami (OH), @ Ohio State, and @ Miami (FL). I would have liked to get a better non conference game at home for next year, but that is a fine non conference slate with a couple of chances to pick up a marquee win.

The 2015 slate is not bad either. Alabama A&M, @ Miami (OH), Miami (FL) and @ BYU. Obviously I would like to get rid of the Alabama A&M game as I think the Bearcats have exceeded the usefulness of FCS games in general. On top of that opening New Nippert with Alabama A&M is definitely an anticlimactic. Bob Arkeilplane famously reached out to ESPN for help in finding a marquee opponent to open New Nippert Stadium.

In January, Bob Arkeilpane, the deputy athletic director at Cincinnati, sent an e-mail to an ESPN executive, Dave Brown. Mr. Arkeilpane explained in the message, which was obtained by The Times, that Cincinnati would be opening a new premium seating area and press box in 2015 and needed a top-tier opponent.

With Miami on the docket that game might not be needed as much, and the Bearcats search for a better opening game for renovated Nippert might be over. There are no signs that UC is looking for that season. But there is one more home and home in the works.

Exciting times.
