Bearcats and Mustangs Gameday Links

In (checks phone) roughly five hours the Bearcats will return to Nippert Stadium for the first time since the 19th of October. Coming into town are the Mustangs of SMU, and the biggest weapon they have is a competent offense, something the Bearcats have not seen since September.

Previewing Cincinnati's Week 11 Opponent: The Mustangs Of SMU || Cincy on the Prowl

The problem with SMU is that there is a ton of pressure on the offense to put up video game-like numbers every week because the defense is a giant sieve. Case in point, their AAC games against Rutgers and Temple. Against the Scarlet Knights the Mustangs scored 52 points… and lost. Then, three weeks later against the Owls, SMU got into a shootout with Temple and put up 59 points but only winning by ten.

Prediction: SMU loses heartbreaker to Cincinnati in pivotal AAC clash || Dallas Morning News

If you look at the rest of SMU’s schedule, games against South Florida and Connecticut should be wins while games against Houston and UCF should be losses. That means this game against Cincinnati could very well make or break SMU’s season. If the Ponies don’t pull out this tough win on the road, don’t expect them to be back in a bowl game.

The general tone of this was very familiar.

Cincinnati-SMU || College Football News

Weather-permitting, Cincinnati and SMU will stage a track meet at Nippert Stadium. The Mustang D doesn’t stop anyone, and the Mustang offense has the firepower to keep pace. The Bearcats, though, are home and better equipped to make a stop late in a close game. They’ll remain unbeaten in Cincinnati, riding an offense that’ll amass more than 500 balanced yards.

Luallen Embracing His Final Chance || Go Bearcats

"It's definitely not anything I expected," Luallen said. "Kind of brought everything full circle, so that has been kind of cool being able to end my career where everything started. It wouldn't feel as good now if I hadn't gone through what I've gone through. Had I done this from the beginning, yeah, it would be cool. But it definitely wouldn't be nearly as satisfying for me to end my football career having some success."

Please show up early to support the seniors. UC is expecting 30,000. Be there. You don't have to stay the whole time, lord knows many of you students won't, but give the seniors some love. They have earned it.

Against Temple, Garrett Gilbert was virtually unstoppable. The Mustangs' signal caller has been piling up the yards all season but his effort against the Owls was on another level, as he threw for 538 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 97 yards and two more scores. Those six total touchdowns are tied for the second most by a player in SMU history. On the year, Gilbert has thrown for 2,634 yards and 14 scores on 65.1 percent passing.

UC weary of SMU’s aerial attack ahead of AAC clash || The News Record: Football

"The month of November and first week of December are going to be tougher for us," Tuberville said. "If we shoot ourselves in the foot we won’t win a game. We’ve had way too many penalties that shouldn’t have been there and penalties that we should avoid. We can’t go into this game, have 10 to 12 penalties and expect to win."
